A handful of color and deep time in one lot — these gem bone slabettes total 107 grams of agatized dinosaur bone, where ancient bone has been replaced by silica while keeping its original cell structure. Over millions of years, mineral-rich water slowly swapped silica for the bone of Jurassic dinosaurs such as Apatosaurus and Allosaurus, agatizing the remains into hard, polishable stone. The result is vivid color — reds, oranges, yellows, blacks, and creams — laid out in the bone's natural cellular "cell" patterns that lapidary artists love.
